Robert Crown Community Center, Ice Complex and Library

Originally built in 1974, the Robert Crown Center has long served as a social and recreational hub for the City of Evanston. After encountering a number of civil, structural, architectural and mechanical issues, this resource no longer met the growing needs of the community.

To continue providing innovative programs and services in a safe and modern environment, the City of Evanston built a new Robert Crown Community Center, Ice Complex & Library. Bulley & Andrews was selected to serve as construction manager for the project. The new center includes:

  • 6,000 sq. ft. branch library, with multipurpose and study rooms
  • Two, NHL regulation-sized ice rinks with locker rooms
  • Gymnasium space to accommodate two, full-court basketball games and designed for a wide range of sports activities including volleyball, indoor soccer, batting practice, and gymnastics
  • Four-lane running track
  • Fitness/dance room, large enough to accommodate 15-20 people
  • Preschool facility
  • Administrative offices

The project is anticipated to achieve LEED Silver certification.
