Park District of Oak Park: Community Recreation Center

The Park District of Oak Park (PDOP) values community, diversity and sustainability. They support these values by creating environments where individuals feel welcomed, included and safe. The district’s new Community Recreation Center (CRC) epitomizes that goal.

The CRC is a three-story, 41,000 sq. ft. recreational facility designed to be net-zero which means it produces as much energy as it consumes. The new facility features energy-saving technology throughout including 670 solar panels to generate electricity.

The space also includes three basketball courts with integrated volleyball courts, a suspended running track, a fitness center and an e-sports gaming room.

The project allows the PDOP to advance its mission to create safe, inclusive environments for residents with a wide range of needs and interests by offering:

  • Access to mental health services and social-emotional programming
  • Affordable group classes and fitness opportunities
  • A place for the community to make connections and strengthen relationships
