October Calendar Spotlight: Galter Pavilion Faculty Center for Northwestern Medicine

Our featured calendar project is the Galter Pavilion Faculty Center in Chicago, Illinois. Supporting Northwestern Medicine’s initiative to expand patient care capacity within Galter Pavilion, Bulley & Andrews (B&A) served as construction manager for the new 18,500-square-foot Faculty Center. The project created a state-of-the-art destination where physicians can work, recharge, collaborate, and access amenities designed to promote wellness after transitioning from traditional office space.

Designed with physician well-being in mind, the Faculty Center features reservable offices, sleep rooms, wellness rooms, meeting spaces, a locker room with showers, and a social zone complete with a café. B&A partnered with Northwestern Medicine early in the process, providing nine months of preconstruction services to help guide the project’s design, budget and schedule. Early procurement of long-lead materials and strategic demolition sequencing allowed the team to maintain progress while design development and BIM coordination continued.

Renovating a fully occupied healthcare facility that remained operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week required meticulous planning and constant coordination. The B&A team carefully phased construction to keep patient care and daily operations running uninterrupted while installing new building utilities in extremely limited ceiling space. Through proactive communication and close collaboration with hospital staff, building occupants, and end users, the team successfully maintained the project schedule while minimizing disruption throughout construction. The team’s exceptional coordination with facility personnel kept the fast-paced project on track from start to finish.

The completed Faculty Center provides Northwestern Medicine physicians with a modern environment that promotes wellness, productivity, and collaboration while allowing additional space within Galter Pavilion to be dedicated to patient care. By balancing complex logistical challenges with the needs of an active healthcare environment, the B&A team delivered a seamless renovation that advances Northwestern Medicine’s mission and enhances the daily experience of its physicians.
