Newly Renovated Gymnasium Unveiled at Hansberry College Prep

The Bulley & Andrews team rallies behind student performers at the Hansberry College Prep ribbon-cutting ceremony.

A vibrant atmosphere filled the air on Friday, February 23rd, 2024, at Hansberry College Prep. The school hosted a joyous ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newly renovated gymnasium. The occasion marked the culmination of extensive efforts by the Hansberry and Noble Support Team staff, alongside Illinois State Representative Justin Slaughter, to transform the gymnasium into a modernized facility.

The renovation project, which includes re-stripped gymnasium flooring, modern basketball hoops and an expanded bleacher seating with a capacity that can accommodate over 300 spectators, represents a significant investment in the school’s athletic and community infrastructure.

Rep. Slaughter, who was in attendance, applauded the collaborative efforts and stressed the importance of investing in youth initiatives. The enthusiasm was shared by teachers, coaches and senior project manager Ántonia Winfrey expressed her excitement about the positive impact the renovation will have on the student experience.

“This ribbon-cutting ceremony not only celebrates the successful project but also symbolizes a commitment to the well-being of the Hansberry Prep community and the enrichment of students’ lives,” remarked Winfrey. “This state-of-the-art facility stands as a testament to collaboration, dedication and foresight, ensuring that generations to come will benefit from its resources and opportunities.”

The event also served as a nostalgic moment for Bulley & Andrews, as they revisited Hansberry College Prep, where they constructed a single-story addition back in 2013. The project consisted of a 15,000 sq. ft. renovation and a 30,000 sq. ft. addition, including a revamped gymnasium.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony not only indicated the opening of a renovated gymnasium but also marked the dawn of a new era of community pride, athletic achievement and student empowerment at Hansberry College Prep.
