September Calendar Spotlight: Murfreesboro Transit Center

Our featured calendar project for September is the new Murfreesboro Transit Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Completed in 2025, the $17.3 million project establishes a modern, centralized hub for the city’s public transportation system. Constructed on a 5.74-acre site, the new 16,000-square-foot facility includes three buildings, six bus canopies, and supporting site infrastructure, creating an efficient, customer-focused campus that enhances mobility and connectivity for residents and visitors alike.

Delivered over a 21-month schedule, the project required close coordination with the adjacent Tennessee Department of Transportation New Salem Highway improvement project to maintain safe public access and keep both projects progressing without disruption. 

The Murfreesboro Transit Center was designed with long-term sustainability and adaptability at its core. As part of the project, the team integrated infrastructure to support future electric buses and passenger vehicles, including conduits and charging systems that position the facility to accommodate the evolving needs of public transportation. Thoughtful engineering and practical construction solutions including hollowcore planks, cast-in-place concrete, CMU walls, and structural steel helped deliver a durable, efficient facility designed to serve the community for decades. By combining forward-thinking design with resilient building materials, the transit center is equipped to serve the community’s transportation needs for decades to come. 

Since opening, the Murfreesboro Transit Center has transformed the city’s public transportation network by streamlining bus transfers, improving accessibility, and creating a welcoming destination for commuters. In recognition of its impact, the project received the 2025 Transit Development of the Year Award from the Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee, highlighting its contribution to advancing mobility and connectivity throughout the region.
