Why The Rees House
is Moving

The move of the Rees House became necessary when the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (the “MPEA”) acquired the property and others as part of a redevelopment project which includes the construction of an event center which will host DePaul University basketball games, among other events.

Because the Rees House is a Chicago landmark and appears on the National Register of Historic Places, it is subject to a Preservation Easement held by Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois. As a historical property, it's existence must be protected. This move accomplishes these goals while making room for new and exciting developments.

The Rees Home will be moved approximately 2 blocks from the current location. It will be conveniently located just east of Prairie Avenue and just North of 21st Street.
