Rees House on the Move

Beginning November 11, Bulley & Andrews is overseeing the three-day move of the landmark Harriet Rees House. Built in 1888, the historic home will be moved one city block and across the street from 2110 S. Prairie Avenue to 2017 S. Prairie Avenue.

A monumental feat, the three-story, 1,045-ton house (with rolling dollies and exoskeleton of steel to stabilize the house) is one of the heaviest residential buildings ever moved in the United States.

For more information on the move, see the recent Chicago Tribune article, “Historic Rees House loaded up, ready for big move” as well as coverage by NBC5 Chicago, which includes a link to a time-lapse video of the move, “Time Lapse Video Shows Amazing Harriet Rees House Move.”
