The University of Chicago Searle Chemistry Building

Bulley & Andrews provided general contracting services for the renovation of Searle Chemistry Laboratory at The University of Chicago.

The 85,000 SF project included a complete gut and rebuild of the 40 year old, five-story building.  The $35 million renovation was designed to meet the new and future technical demands of leading scientific research, while fostering the human interaction that fuels cross-disciplinary scholarship at the University.  The newly renovated space houses wet laboratories for synthetic chemistry, office space for Department of Chemistry staff and an expansion of the Computation Institute.

Construction began in September of 2007 and was completed in June 2009.  Searle Laboratory was designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification.  However, extra credits identified by the project team during the construction phase, enabled the project to attain LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
