CHICAGO, IL (October 18, 1999) The Meyne Company, general contractor, and HLM Design, architectural design, announce the completion of the third floor build-out at The University of Chicago Hospitals’ Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine (CAM). The 67,000 SF space is the new home to a number of departments including ambulatory practices of pediatric subspecialties, obstetrics and gynecology, as well as general internal medicine.

The opening of CAM3 represents another "step forward in improving our patients’ experience at The University of Chicago Hospitals," according to Steven H. Lipstein, Hospitals’ president. The design and configuration of the new floor successfully accommodates three departments with very different styles of practice and also eliminates the need for patients to walk down long corridors or even outside to have X-rays performed.

While the project involved just one floor in CAM, it is the third largest project in the history of the Hospitals. Construction began October 1, 1998 with substantial completion achieved August 28, 1999.

The floors above and below the space remained occupied throughout construction. Vigilant schedule adherence and tight coordination among team members minimized disruptions. "Keeping CAM’s second and fourth floors operational during the course of construction was essential. The Meyne Company’s ability to manage these circumstances was a key factor to the project’s overall success," said Ray Donato, Construction Manager, Planning Design & Construction.

The construction team was directed by Tim Puntillo, Project Manager, and Dave Wagner, Project Superintendent; Kendal Foster, Ken Moran, AIA, and Alan Mack, ASID, led the design effort.

Established in 1906, The Meyne Company, is now a division of Bulley & Andrews, LLC one of the oldest general contractors in Chicago. For more information contact Tim Puntillo or Sloan Watson at (312) 207-2100.
