CHICAGO, IL (March 27, 2002) Bulley & Andrews recently completed construction of a new church facility for St. Alphonsus Liguori parish in Prospect Heights, Illinois. The project created new worship and gathering space for the congregation and renovated the existing gymnasium for expanded use.
The new, single-story church structure is approximately 16,000 SF, providing seating for 850, and includes a sanctuary, narthex, meeting rooms and support space. The masonry structure is covered with steel beams supporting tongue and grove wood decking and features a pitched roof, elliptical patterned glass exterior walls and clearstory lighting allowing natural daylight to fill the interior. A large entrance plaza, anchored by a bell tower, creates a welcoming space for parishioners to gather indoors as well as out.
Site improvements include expanded parking, landscaping and drop off areas to accommodate the needs of the enhanced facility. Construction began in October 2000 and substantial completion was achieved in January 2002.
“Bulley & Andrews’ involvement was central to making St. Alphonsus’ vision a reality; much of our success can be attributed to their people and their efforts, ” commented Edwin Janus, Construction Manager. The construction team for the project included Paul Hellermann, Project Executive, Tom Bergthold, Project Manager, and John Gallagher, Superintendent. The project’s designer was Prisco Serena Sturm Architects of Northbrook, IL.
