CHICAGO, IL (March 26, 2003) The Meyne Company served as general contractor for the renovation of the Museum of Science & Industry’s food service area now known as the Brain Food Court. The finished project provides service and seating for 525 guests and was substantially completed in September 2002.
Plans for the project focused on the renovation of 21,000 SF of interior space to create expanded, flexible seating within a full-service, fun and interactive food service environment. The results provide an inviting and comfortable dining opportunity for the Museum’s 1.6 million annual visitors.
A departure from traditional food court spaces, the Brain Food Court was designed to feel more like a casual restaurant. The dining area features angled wood wall panels, decorative glass pendants outlining the perimeter, and colorful loose seating which can be easily reconfigured for larger parties and special events. Four individual serveries ring the space with a large, curved food bar as a central focal point. An information station up front provides concierge service for the Museum’s guests where they can obtain information regarding any of the Museum’s programs as well as purchase memberships and show tickets.
The construction team for the project included Mark Evans, Project Executive; Sam Vaccarello, Senior Project Manager; Bob Logan, Superintendent and Jim Keiler, Superintendent. The architect was Aumiller Younguist, P.C. led by Keith Youngquist and managed by Boris Cubas.
