CHICAGO, IL (March 15, 2003) Bulley & Andrews, LLC, general contractors, and McBride Kelley Baurer, architects, have teamed up to design and build a miniature golf hole as a part of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago’s eighth annual ‘Golf Around Chicago’ fundraiser. This unique fundraiser features an 18-hole miniature golf course showcasing the creative designs of award-winning architects and builders. The course is open for public play at Navy Pier’s Crystal Garden from March 21April 13, 2003.
Bulley & Andrews’ and McBride Kelley Baurer’s collaborative effort pays homage to famed architect and city planner Daniel Burnham’s plan for Chicago of 1909 which proposes a chain of barrier islands off Chicago’s lakeshore. While unrealized, the concept remains an intriguing possibility for an unparalleled habitat for birds and other wildlife.
To celebrate Burnham’s plan and a great idea waiting to happen, the firms’ golf hole design simulates Chicago’s would-be lakeshore. Putting south from the waters off of Montrose Harbor, players can experience the concept of the islands against the backdrop of Chicago’s memorable skyline.
Golf Around Chicago runs from Friday, March 21 through Sunday, April 13. Course hours are 10:00 am to 10:00 pm Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 11:00 pm Saturdays, and 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Sundays. Weekday admission for all 18 holes is $6.25 for adults and $5.25 for children under 12.
All proceeds from the event benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago, which provides a full range of counseling, vocational assistance, education, and advocacy services to people with epilepsy and their families.
