CHICAGO, IL (September 30, 2007) Bulley & Andrews, LLC recently completed The Latin School of Chicago's new middle school. Located at 45 W. North Boulevard, the project finished in time for the start of the 2007-2008 academic year and represents the culmination of years of planning and the efforts of countless administrators, faculty, parents, alumni and students.
The scope of the project involved demolition of an existing four-story building and the construction of a new 90,000SF, four-story middle school with basement and mechanical penthouse. The new facility includes science labs, learning resource center, computer room, student classrooms, full-service kitchen, cafeteria and ancillary rooms for faculty offices and workspace. The new construction also features a bridge connecting the new middle school to the existing upper school building to the west.
The project followed a rigorous schedule to achieve completion for the start of the fall semester. Specific challenges included the aggressive coordination of trades to keep the project advancing despite inclement weather and challenging site conditions due to the congested urban site.
The project broke ground in February 2006 and achieved substantial completion in August 2007. The school's official grand opening was September 25, 2007 and was attended by hundreds who welcomed the newest addition to the private school's campus on the city's near north side.
The construction team for the project included Paul Hellermann, Project Executive; Timothy Puntillo, Senior Project Manager; Matthew Lubbers, Project Manager; Dominick Dibella, Superintendent; and Peter Kuhn, Project Engineer. The architectural design firm was Nagle Hartray Danker Kagan McKay Penney Architects.
