Bulley and Andrews Through The Years:
1990-1999

The Meyne Company, 1991

In 1991 Bulley & Andrews acquired local contractor Gerhardt F. Meyne, a firm well know for excellence in the building industry. The two companies shared similar corporate values including a heightened appreciation for repeat client relationships and a commitment to total client satisfaction. The former Gerhardt F. Meyne is now known as The Meyne Company and operates as a division of Bulley & Andrews, LLC. The Meyne Company continues to serve many of its past clients such as Central Steel & Wire and American National Bank. The Meyne Company increased Bulley & Andrews field forces and self-performing capabilities and provided valuable concrete expertise to the firm's range of services.

During the early to mid 1990s Bulley & Andrews began to substantially increase its involvement in the senior living market. Most notably, we constructed new and renovated existing space for Presbyterian Home in Evanston, IL. University Club of Chicago, 1991

Attention to detail, self-performance and the ability to work in occupied spaces has made The Meyne Company a valued asset to The University Club of Chicago's renovation and remodeling efforts. In 1991, The Meyne Company renovated the club's second floor, which included a new lounge and bar area with extensive high-end millwork and finishes. Tigerman McCurry designed the project in association with Constantine Zissimopoulos.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1994

1994 marked the beginning of Bulley & Andrews' involvement in the ongoing, phased, historical restoration work at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Evanston, IL. This 1890 Joliet limestone church has undergone exterior masonry restoration, which cleaned the stone and re-pointed the sanctuary structure with mortar following the original mix design and joint detailing. Completely new mechanical and electrical systems were integrated into the turn of the century construction, ornate plaster columns repaired and original stenciling replicated. A recipient of Evanston's Margery B. Perkins Award for Historic Restoration, this church has been preserved for generations.

The Northern Trust, 1996

During the 1990's, Bulley & Andrews continued to complete a significant amount of work for financial institutions including The Northern Trust. This relationship, with one of the firm's oldest clients, illustrates that high quality, on-time and on-budget construction projects are valued by clients as well as general contractors. In 1996, Bulley & Andrews was honored to be awarded the contract for The Northern Trust's new two-story branch in Winnetka, IL. Designed by OWP&P, the project posed several 'challenges' to the project team. Value-engineering, an extremely tight site with the existing bank building two feet from the new building's entrance and complex interior details were all addressed proactively and work expedited to move the bank to final completion.

The University of Chicago Computing Lab, 1999

Challenged by the increase in student computing needs, The University of Chicago sought to develop a new, state-of-the-art computing laboratory that would be flexible as well as comfortable. VMC Architects analyzed alternatives to the typical classroom style of traditional computer laboratories to create what is being considered the first computer laboratory of its kind and a model for the future. The Meyne Company completed construction for the 5,500 SF buildout in five months and self-performed all millwork and carpentry throughout the space. The tight schedule was kept on track through aggressive coordination efforts which allowed access flooring to be installed and 64,800 feet of cable -over 12 miles- to be pulled while the project was in full progress.
