Building Green

Bulley & Andrews fully recognizes and embraces the importance of creating sustainable and healthy environments for us to work, live and recreate.

We are proud members of U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and are dedicated to using our expertise to support and promote sustainable building practices.

Over 75% of B&A’s project management staff is LEED accredited.  The firm is a recognized leader in sustainable building practices with significant project experience at all levels of LEED construction, including Platinum certifications.

During the design phase of a project, B&A’s project management team applies our expertise to evaluate LEED appropriate methods, materials and systems.  From the evaluation, we develop and offer suggestions and/or alternatives to help the project more easily and/or more cost-effectively achieve its sustainability goals.

Bulley & Andrews assumes responsibility for earning the construction credits on a LEED project.  This process starts before construction begins with documentation of the materials specified for the project.  B&A verifies that the designated materials meet or exceed the LEED goals for recycled content, regional materials, renewable materials, certified wood and low-emitting materials.

After construction begins, B&A will implement a Construction Activity Pollution Prevention plan, which is a prerequisite for all of the sustainable site credits.  A waste management and indoor air quality plan will also be implemented and enforced throughout construction to insure that desired MR (materials and resources) and EQ (indoor environmental quality) credits are obtained.

Finally, at the end of construction, B&A plays an active role in the commissioning of the building.  We assist the owner’s commissioning agent in the process, including documentation, and require subcontractors to perform their own “pre-commissioning” tests.

We are confident that, in partnership with our clients and industry colleagues, our collective efforts can make a significant impact on the sustainability of the built environment.  This impact not only benefits the environment but also provides long-term economic benefits for building owners and improves the overall quality of life for those who utilize the spaces we help create.
